Ombre
Dark roots, light ends, a seamless fade between.Ombre at HSR Layout
Ombre keeps your natural colour at the root and lightens gradually toward the ends, so the transition reads as one deliberate fade rather than a hard line. It's a bolder, more graphic look than balayage, and one of the lowest-maintenance colour services we offer at the root.
We build the gradient section by section, blending the mid-lengths so there's no visible line where dark meets light, then tone the ends to the exact shade you want. Because your roots stay close to natural, regrowth is barely noticeable for months.

Moments from real visits.
Concerns this solves
The worry with ombre is a harsh, obvious line where the dark meets the light instead of a smooth fade. Careful blending through the mid-lengths is what prevents that.
Wanting a bold, graphic colour change
Not wanting to commit to frequent root touch-ups
Worry about a harsh, visible line between root and ends
Wanting lightened ends without lightening the whole head
The difference you'll feel.
Blended through the mid-lengths, not a hard line
We build the transition gradually through your mid-lengths, which is what separates a seamless ombre from an obvious two-tone job.
Roots kept close to natural for easy grow-out
Because the root stays close to your natural colour, regrowth stays soft and unnoticeable for months, not weeks.
Toned to the exact shade you want
Ends are toned precisely, so you leave with the exact tone you asked for, not whatever the lightener left behind.
Your experience, step by step.
Consult & Plan the Fade
We discuss how dramatic you want the gradient and where it should start.
Lighten the Ends
Ends and lower mid-lengths are lightened to the level needed for your tone.
Blend the Transition
The mid-length zone is carefully blended so there's no visible line.
Tone & Style
A toner refines the ends to your exact shade, then a full style reveals the fade.

Make your results last.
Go sulphate-free
Colour-safe shampoo keeps the lightened ends from fading or turning brassy.
Deep-condition the ends
Lightened ends need more moisture than your natural roots โ treat them accordingly.
Book a gloss refresh
A gloss every 8-10 weeks keeps the fade looking clean without a full re-application.

Your ombre questions,
answered honestly.
What's the difference between ombre and balayage?
Ombre is a more graphic, deliberate fade from dark roots to light ends; balayage is softer and more hand-painted throughout, with less contrast at the root. Ombre is bolder, balayage is subtler.
How often do I need a touch-up?
This is one of the lowest-maintenance colour services precisely because the root stays close to natural โ most clients go 4-6 months between full sessions, with an occasional gloss in between.
Will there be a visible line between my roots and the colour?
Not with proper blending through the mid-lengths โ that's the technical skill that separates a seamless ombre from an obvious two-tone result.
Can I get ombre on dark hair?
Yes, though very dark hair may need more than one session to reach a lighter tone at the ends safely โ we'll map out a realistic plan rather than over-process your hair in one visit.
Is ombre suitable for short hair?
It can work, though the gradient reads most dramatically on mid-length to long hair where there's more room for the transition. We'll advise honestly on how it'll look on your length.
